The Life of Lady is a story about a cat, the many chapters and stages in her long life, her struggles, and over-comings. If this sounds like all of us, it's because it is. On one level, it is a children's book, written from a spiritual perspective, about change, loss, courage, friendship, and God. It is both a sweet story and a therapeutic book to help children struggling with loss and change, written by a LCSW who spent 28 years in the field of child welfare. On a deeper level, it is for all of us who struggle with change and loss and the therapists who help us. Why do bad things happen to good people? How many of us would like to have a conversation with God about this and the meaning of life?
Lady the cat does just this. We all have change and loss in our lives; things we absolutely don't want to occur. We are powerless and have no choice in the matter. It can be a divorce, the end of a career, an era, or death. But this doesn't mean that new chapters in our lives can't be good. Many of us have to overcome and do. But how do we keep going when we hurt? Change is inevitable, so God must have created it! Why? God does have a purpose in our lives for good. Part of God's plan is that we grow, learn, and help one another along the way. Do you remember the movie"Oh God?" Think of all the good we would miss if we never experience change in our lives. We would remain infants. A lot of change, in time, becomes our new good. Courage is what you find when you keep going in spite of being afraid; until you find your next good thing. I believe there is never a time when God doesn't love and support us. God sends friend to comfort us and stand beside us.
